Printed newsletters love the spread: two pages, a photograph, a caption, and the assumption that you are holding both pages at once. On a screen that assumption fails. The left page and the right page are the same page, scrolled, and the caption often ends up in the margin of a file you cannot select.
We divided Frontpage into five sections and kept them stable, the way a newspaper keeps its desks. Desk opens the issue. Studio is about making. Field is about what happened when the work met a real domain name and a real reader. Craft is the practical piece. Letters is the door back in.
A section is also a shelf across issues. If you only care how sites get launched, you can read Field and ignore the rest. The archive still holds the other rooms. Nothing requires you to finish issue one before issue two will make sense, but the section names should still mean the same thing in both.
That is the bargain. We give up some of the poster drama of a locked spread. You gain a map. The cover can still be bold. The inside has to be usable on a Tuesday, with one hand, on a bus.
